Weekly Slice: In and Around Town (October 20-26)

Deadheads will be roamings the streets on Saturday, October 22nd for the 5 kill-o-meter Toronto Zombie Walk. Pre-walk festivities start at noon in Trinity Bellwoods Park. If you want to catch Adam Invader and Thea Munster join in Unholy Matrimony, it’s scheduled for 2pm.

Toronto After Dark Film Festival is here, on until October 27th.  If you enjoy brawling monsters, zombie comedy or vampire thrillers, you will find it on the festival schedule

  • The Delicious Food Show takes place this weekend (Oct 20-23) at the Better Living Centre at Exhibition Place. Celebrity chefs will be in attendance, there will be cooking demos, wine pairing, and you will be shown the latest trends in food and design.
  • Chagall and the Russian Avant-Garde: Masterpieces from the Collection of the Centre Pompidou, Paris opened at the AGO this week and runs until January 15. It is comprised of 118 works of art from various media, including painting, photography, film, sculpture and works on paper. Russian modernists, also included in this collection, are Wassily Kandinsky, Kasimir Malevich, Natalia Goncharova, Sonia Delaunay, and Vladimir Tatlin.

Continuing this week:

      • Screemers haunts Toronto until Halloween. Visitors can “live the fear” as they walk through six bone-chilling attractions: The Asylum, House of Cards, The Darkness, Haunted House, Maniac Maze and Slasher Wax Museum. It takes places at Queen Elizabeth Complex in Exhibition Place.
      • Powerhouse of Terror is another haunting alternative open until Halloween. The Powerhouse warns “you will experience fear at its deepest level” at its various attractions including: CarnEvil Manor, Quarantine, Insidious and Buried Alive. A portion of net proceeds from admission and concessions will benefit the PACT Urban Peace Program.
      • The Toronto Chocolate Festival is in town until October 23rd at Roy Thomson Hall. If you’re a chocoholic you will want to check out this event and try samples of chocolate in every tasty and delicious form.
      • In theatre, Mirvish brings you 2 shows until October 30th: Chess The Musical, where “two of the world’s greatest chess masters battle it out at the world chess championships but their greatest contest is for the love of one woman”. The other is Private Lives, co-starring Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) and Paul Gross (Due South), wonderfully matched; their on-stage chemistry only intensifies from scene to scene.
